This past weekend we took a short trip to Duluth to visit my sister Katelyn, who is in her 2nd year of college there. This trip was originally planned for last spring break, but the kids got really sick, so we re-scheduled for now. The trip turned out to be far from perfect. First off, it was just too short. Heading up Saturday morning, and leaving Sunday after lunch didn't give us a ton of time to do the many things Duluth has to offer. Also, Henry has been sleeping kind of goofy lately, so it didn't help throwing his schedule of naps off, and sleeping in the same space as him. The other challenging part is his activity level. We always say, he isn't naughty, just BUSY!
So... I'm not filled with a ton of warm-fuzzy memories to share, but we did agree on the way home that there were plenty of highlights like...
~Seeing Katelyn's apartment and meeting her roommates.
~Hearing about Katelyn's Halloween costume (Snooki).
~Watching Henry get so many smiles from her roommates.
~Olivia said one of her favorite parts was coloring at Katelyn's place. (She made some beautiful artwork which they have hanging up there now.)
~ Watching Henry get so excited and light up seeing the horses pulling carriages around Canal Park.
~Of course, seeing Katelyn, which was the point of the whole trip anyway! Olivia really loved spending this time with her!
~Throwing rocks in the lake. (A favorite activity for Henry anyway.)
~Samples from the Rocky Mountain Fudge shop, and three hunks to bring back to the hotel with us!
~Swimming in the hotel pool. (Again, probably a favorite for Henry.)
| Pardon Pat's "motor boat" face.
|
~Room service breakfast.
~Olivia and Henry run photo-shoot, which consisted of about a half dozen of these kinds of shots... Henry taking Olivia's picture holding something (stuffed pig, blankie, a cup, a nuk), cutting her head off in each shot.
~Along with more of a photo-shoot with Olivia's Barbie.
~Going to church where Katelyn has been going. VERY different from what we're used to, but she's going to church, so that's cool. And they have coffee and tea available that you can bring into church with you! (Highlight for Pat!)
~Viewing the ships on the lake. Just wish we could have watched one come in.
So there you have it... far from a picture perfect trip, but time with family, memories made, and a few lessons learned. :)
