Our friends the Olsens are big State Park goers. We are getting more into it too. We have joined them with getting "passports" and get them stamped at each new park we visit. It also comes with a booklet to journal about our trip. We have gone to a few parks together and look forward to visiting new ones! Dave works at three parks up north and hoped to go there over MEA break. It didn't work out to stay at a cabin we hoped to, so we decided to stay at my parents' cabin instead and hit up a few parks in the area.
We started with Lake Maria State Park on our drive up to the cabin. The colors were indescribable! The farther we drive into the park the more amazed we were. At one point it was like driving through a golden tunnel! Bethany and the kids joined us for a picnic and hiking. We had many laughs from the kids' antics including little Norah's obsession with collecting acorns.
At the cabin the kids spent so much time in pretend play (one of the girls' favorite things to do), and playing hide-and-seek (Hilarious to listen to!). We sipped hot apple cider, read books, played games, played with clay, went for walks outside, played in the sandbox, made s'mores in the fireplace, played with clay, and shared in lots of yummy meals together.
The second park we visited was Glendalough State Park, just about 20 minutes from the cabin. Again, we found beautiful fall colors hanging on, and enjoyed some nice walking paths. We hoped to see a yert (that some of us just learned what it was), but the walk to see one was just too far for the little ones. It was chilly and nap time was calling.
We sure are blessed to have such great friends, and beautiful parks to visit with them. Looking forward to many more!
