In August we made good use of the beautiful summer weather this year by really filling up our weekends with pool time and adventures. Unfortunately, the two Saturdays we scheduled groups of friends for pizza/pool parties, it was actually quite cool. We all had fun anyway, but sure would have liked it a little warmer considering it was the middle of August. Our first group was our ECFE friends. I regret not getting a group photo, but got this one of Orelia and Olivia, who were literally hanging on each other every moment in the pool. Blondies with matching suits, it was hard to tell them apart from afar. The second group was my RA friends from SCSU. Almost the whole crew was there, so a group shot of the kiddos was a must. Such a fun group that we always have a blast with!
On the Saturdays we didn't have set plans, we made our own adventures. One day we decided on a day trip to Stillwater. We hit up Teddy Bear Park, walked along the river, got malts at Leo's Malt Shop, sat to watch the lift bridge go up, checked out a candy shop, and read some books at a book store. On our way home we stopped for dinner. It was a good day, so we decided to take little day trips more often.
The next Saturday we had no plans, we decided to travel to New Ulm. We did a little on-line searching first to come up with a list of sites we wanted to take in. First up was the Harkin Store. It was a historical site, a store open in the late 1800s that was abandoned when it was no longer needed. The historical site of Fort Ridgely was just down the road, we went to that too. Little did we know we'd check off another State Park on our list going there too!
Once we got into the city of New Ulm our first stop was Herman the German. It took a little convincing Henry to make the climb up, but we did make it to the top.
Right after the walk back down, my flip-flop broke. Like, there was no way it would stay on my foot. Pat mentioned we'd run to a store for new shoes, and I refused. I knew we could find a way to secure it to my foot with what we had in the car. Three zip-ties later and they were "fixed". It hurt to walk, but I wasn't about to let that stop us. Up next was the glockenspiel. It was a few minute show of the characters spinning around and music playing. Then we hit-up a German restaurant. The sauerkraut meatball soup was AMAZING. We topped our adventure off with some ice cream.
