Our fourth annual Laura Ingalls Homestead trip took us to Burr Oak, Iowa. This is where the Ingalls family worked for the Master Hotel for about a year. The hotel has been turned into a museum. We saw where they lived and heard about the kinds of work they did while living there. The highlight for the kids was using their imaginative play in the covered wagon. These kids are the best at that kind of play!
We spent the rest of the afternoon hiking around Decorah, Iowa, getting pizza, and ice cream at the Whippy Dip.
We pitched the tent at Forestville Mystery Cave State Park and had an evening of games and books. Neither mom slept well and we've just given into the fact that sleep for us just doesn't happen when we camp together! In the morning we drove to the cave portion of the park and took part in a guided tour. We had a picnic lunch, play time, explored the river, and checked out the historical farm buildings before heading back home. Quite a lot of activity packed into a two day trip, but always worth it!
