When Olivia was in Kindergarten, I read the Little House on the Prairie series to her. One book titled The Long Winter, highlighted how hard one particular winter was on their family. There was so much snow the train couldn't get through, which limited their food supply to just potatoes. They ran out of wood to burn so resorted to twisting straw to burn to keep warm. Winds blew the snow so much they had to tie themselves to the house so they wouldn't get lost going to do farm chores.
This winter may not have been THAT bad, mostly thanks to advancements in technology. Even if the weather was that bad, at least we have a way of living today to make it so much more comfortable! Still, when so many records were broken this winter, I felt it was worthy to document. School was closed due to the cold a few days, and due to the snow a few more. Church was even cancelled one day due to blowing snow making roads impassable. The months of January and February involved a lot of entertaining ourselves at home.
The kids are so easy! They look forward to pajama days of doing nothing but listening to audio books, crafting, and doing Legos. I found myself doing lots of cleaning/organizing, baking, reading, and vacation researching. I also shoveled the sidewalk more times in one winter than ever before. When it did get manageable weather for being outside, the kids would play in the slow until they were soaked through.
