Memorial Day Weekend... A Weekend of Firsts

This photo was taken for a project my sister is doing for school.

Memorial Day of course is a time to remember those that sacrificed so much for our country. Something else I try to remember, is the sacrifice their loved ones also made. I saw a segment on TV one morning about a group of young widows who lost their husbands in the war. It breaks my heart to see the pain so many go through, and yet it also makes me thankful for not having to go through that kind of pain myself.

We enjoyed a day in Anoka celebrating Pat's Mom's birthday on Saturday. Lunch at Applebees, picking flowers, playing with the kids, and just visiting was a perfect way to spend the beautiful day. Sunday and Monday were spent at my parents' pool. Sunday we did a lot of work getting the property ready for the many summer events scheduled there. Monday was spent relaxing with extended family over for a swim as well. The weekend can be well summed up by sharing the "Firsts" what were experienced:

~Olivia's first time fishing! (She LOVED it, dug the worms out of the container all by herself, and caught 5 fish total with daddy!)
~Henry's first time in the Bjorn. (Slept the whole time which allowed mommy to take pictures of the fishing adventure!)
~My first time opperating a leaf blower.
~First time grilling bananas. (Got the idea from Dole.com/bananas.)
~Best first of all . . . Henry's first smile! He flashed such a big one at me Saturday morning, we have been encouraging him for many more since then!
