This weekend we enjoyed our third trip to my parents' pool this summer. Olivia is at a fun age where she's able to enjoy the water more and more. We aren't enrolling her in swimming lessons yet, since we feel she's still at an age where most of what they do in lessons is helping her be more comfortable in the water, and that's what we're able to expose her to ourselves. We do have a few goals we'd like her to accomplish by the end of the summer:
- Dunk her head under water.
- Blow bubbles in the water.
- Have us support her in a front and back float.
- Jump in the water with us catching her.
- Float in a life-jacket, without us directly holding her.
- Kick while holding onto the side of the pool.
These are pretty basic, but she started the summer feeling perfectly happy sitting on the steps and playing with toys at the side of the pool. She's already making progress towards some of these goals. I know if we work on it a bit with each pool visit, she'll be a fish in no time!
