Fort Snelling & Memorial Day

Henry's eyeing up a boat.  :)
Marrying into a military family I have learned the importance of honoring certain holidays for what they are meant for.  Remembering those who served is something we are sure to do, and teach our children to do each Memorial Day.  This year Pat wanted to take the family to Historic Fort Snelling.  We both hadn't been there since we were kids.  It was great to expose our kids to the history, and traditions like getting rock candy from the general store.

Additionally, we stopped by the Fort Snelling cemetery.  Pat purchased some small flags.  He wanted to put one at his Grandpa and Grandma's site.  He had extras that he instructed the kids to put at grave sites without any flowers or flags yet.  This might be one of my favorite new traditions to do as a family.
